Measuring Your Existing Doors and Drawer Fronts

After selecting the ideal style and finish for your kitchen doors, it’s time to focus on getting the measurements right. This may seem daunting at first but we are here to guide you through the process.

So grab your measuring tape and start with your existing setup.  To give your kitchen that dream makeover, you’ll need to measure the doors and drawers rather than your existing cabinets.  The doors and drawers will be slightly smaller than the cabinets.  This is normal!  This allows for them to open freely without clashing.

Its best to measure the back of the door or drawer front rather than the front.  Often the front of the door is shaped and that can make it difficult to measure.  The back of your existing doors and drawers are more likely to be flat and much easier to measure.  Measure the height and width of each cabinet door – we always measure in Millimetres (mm).  Write down all of the measurements.

Measuring Hinge Holes

Once you have noted down the measurement of each door, it is time to measure for hinge holes.  At Click Doors we can drill each door for hinge holes making the doors fit perfectly on your existing kitchen units.  Doors are either drilled on the side of the door or at the top/bottom of the door. 

With side hung doors, if the hinge holes are on the left hand side (as you face the front of the door) then we call this left hand hinged.  If  the holes are on right hand side (as you face the front of the door) then we call this right hand hinged.  

All of our hinge holes have a radius of 35mm.   This size works in almost all cases of a standard UK kitchen, even if you are replacing B&Q, Wren or Wickes doors.  

On a side hung door, you will need to measure from the top of the door down to the centre of the first hinge hole and then measure from the bottom of the door up to the centre of the second hinge hole. 

On a top/bottom hung door, you will need to measure from the left hand side to the centre of the first hinge hole and then measure from the right hand edge of the door to the centre of the second hinge hole.
